The burden of early stardom: Pains of a rising star

Justin Bieber was just 12 when he was discovered by Hollywood’s talent agent, Scooter Braun. Even before turning 18, the child star became a celebrated personality. His songs, his innocent appearance, and his charming personality sent the world into the ‘Bieber fever’.

However, a fan on social media posted a video compilation of the Sorry singer that revealed a darker side of the story. The singer’s path to success wasn’t all that glittery, and the video pointed just that.

Fans noticed that the young singer went through uncomfortable situations and borderline harassment while in the spotlight. The clip featured multiple scenarios in which the underage star was touched inappropriately by adults.

Interviewers asked downright disgusting questions, things which confused the then-young Bieber. One particular incident was from the 2012 AMAs when Jenny McCarthy grabbed the singer on stage and forcefully kissed his neck, while he visibly resisted.

In his acceptance speech, the STAY singer mentioned feeling violated by what happened. Unfortunately, things didn’t stop there and the video continued showcasing more intolerable instances.

Fans took a stand for the misunderstood singer

Fans online were horrified by the shocking details of the video, with people sympathizing with Bieber. The singer has been through several controversies and this does not excuse his actions. But his traumatic experience may be the cause behind his eventual rebellion and public outbursts.

It was hard for me being that young, and being in the industry, and not knowing where to turn, and everyone telling me they love me, and just turn their back on you in a second.

Years later, the Yummy singer spoke about the impact that early stardom had on him. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe (via USA Today), he mentioned wanting to shield a fellow young artist from the negatives of fame.

I don’t want her to go through anything I went through. I don’t wish that upon anybody. If she ever needs me, I’m just a call away.

Bieber claimed he wanted to help Billie Eilish not face the same situations he did. The unfortunate events of the past taught the singer a level of endurance, but he did not want anyone else to go through it.







People online raged on discovering the vile things the child artist went through, blaming the celebrities. Comments referenced the recent accusations against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs saying he wasn’t the only shady famous personality. Things were rough for the singer while growing up in the industry, but Bieber persevered to make a happy life for himself.
