Tina Knowles spoke about Beyonce's childhood

Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, recently opened up to Vogue in a touching interview, sharing some of the superstar’s childhood struggles.

She revealed that Beyonce “was very shy” and had to face bullies during her early years. Tina took a trip down memory lane on Instagram, recounting a proud moment when young Beyonce didn’t stand up for herself but courageously stepped forward for someone else being bullied. “Beyonce, she was very shy and she got bullied a bit but the day that she stood up for someone – she didn’t stand up for herself, she stood up for them.”

The thought brought tears to Tina’s eyes as she expressed: “I’m getting emotional talking about it. I was just, I couldn’t have been more proud of her.”

Besides Beyonce’s anecdote, Tina also shared poignant stories about Kelly Rowland and Solange. She highlighted how they showed their character while growing up.

Notably, Tina recalled Solange’s early days of activism: “Solange, was her signing a petition in school, she was only in like fifth grade and she was out getting petitions signed. So she’s always been an activist.”

Tina fondly recalled Kelly, who she says is like a daughter after she joined their family at the age of 11, as a natural protector and peacemaker among her friends. Now 70, Tina continues to share her experiences of raising her “three girls” including Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, now 43.

She detailed how Kelly always had a protective streak, noting: “Kelly was always this kid that just tried to protect everybody. I have a memory of her with her best friend Barbara and her being a mediator and just being this little peacemaker.”

Alongside the video clip from the Vogue interview, Tina shared insights into her parenting philosophy, reflecting on the strong, supportive environment she aimed to provide for Beyonce, now 42, Solange, 37, and Kelly.

She wrote: “Each child is different! But all so special. I believe kids are born with their personalities. My three girls All handled things very differently”.

“Learn their personalities and respect the individuality. Never compare the negatives , always praise the positive differences and pay attention to the things that you can brag on about them. They love it and it encourages positive behavior”.
