Dallas Cowboys News
Unless you’ve been living under a rock and ignoring mock drafts all together, you know the Dallas Cowboys are considered the likeliest landing spot for Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The pairing makes sense: The Cowboys want to revamp their running game and Jeanty is a great fit for what new head coach Brian Schottenheimer wants to do. He’s also an electric prospect whose biggest question mark is all about positional value, not about his play.
That’s why ahead of this week’s NFL Scouting Combine, watching Jeanty on the field was expected to be one of the biggest storylines for the Cowboys. Unfortunately, that won’t happen.
According to Jeanty’s agent, the star running back will only partake in medical evaluations and team interviews. He’ll skip on-field drills and instead do those during Boise State’s Pro Day.
Jeanty’s decision isn’t uncommon for top-rated prospects. Pro Days are preferred by many players as it’s a more controlled environment and the focus turns to them exclusively. Additionally, it allows them to zero in on interviews, which is considered one of the most important aspects of the Combine.
Now granted, that’s slightly disappointing news for the Cowboys but nothing that will keep them from writing his name on the card they turn in when they’re on the clock at 12th overall next April.
However, missing the chance to watch him run the 40-yard dash and compete with the other running backs of the class would’ve been a great exercise and if it were up to the Cowboys, he’d be doing so.
I can’t blame Jeanty for trusting what he’s already put on film during an elite college football career, though. Waiting until his Pro Day is a decision that won’t move the needle all that much.
