Just hearing the opening bars of Natalie Cole’s “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” is enough to remind anyone of The Parent Trap—and subsequently send us all into the deepest pits of nostalgia.
Now, Lindsay Lohan is adding to your longing for ’90s Nancy Meyers films by recreating a sweet moment from the 1998 hit movie, alongside her brother Dakota.
Taking to Instagram, the now 36-year-old shared two images side-by-side, one from the 1998 film and another of her and Dakota recreating the very same image, in the exact same spot 24 years later.
In the original photo, a then 12-year-old Lindsay is dressed as her character Annie—the British twin to the American twin, Hallie—holding a baby in front of London’s Big Ben tower, dressed in the character’s iconic pistachio gingham suit. While the photo appears for mere moments in the film, fans had no idea as to who the baby was in relation to the film’s plot. And now, we know that the baby in question is Lindsay’s younger brother, Dakota.
For context, The Parent Trap follows twins Hallie Parker and Annie James, both seamlessly played by Lindsay. Hallie lives in California with their dad and Annie lives in London with their mother—however, neither know the other even exists until the twins meet at summer camp. Once they figure out that they share the same parents, they construct a plan to swap places and bring their parents back together.
“Now and Then. #TheParentTrap #bffs,” Lindsay wrote on the Instagram photos, with Dakota also sharing the post to his own Instagram page.
“Full circle my angels,” their mother, Dina Lohan, wrote underneath Lindsay’s post.
“Yes, you want to know the difference between us?” Lindsay said, alongside audio from her onscreen character, Hallie. Then, she mimicked her other character Annie, replying, “I have class and you don’t”.
In July last year, Lindsay celebrated the film’s 23rd anniversary by commenting on director Nancy Meyers’ celebration of the film. In her comment, Lindsay called the chance to play Annie and Hallie “the opportunity of a lifetime”.
“@TheParentTrap came out 23 years ago today. Thank you for all of the love sent my way over the years about this film,” Nancy wrote in an Instagram post. “I’ve enjoyed all of your DMs, photos, parties, costumes, handshake videos and just general sweetness. Thanks for this great montage @filmpiscess. @lindsaylohan @chazzshyer @lisaannwalter @elaine4animals.”
“Thank you for the opportunity of a lifetime Nancy,” Lindsay commented on the 72-year-old director’s post, with Nancy writing back to her, “Love you always Linds”.
But that’s not all the celebrating that Lindsay has done this year. In July, she shared that she and her partner of three years, Bader Shammas, had secretly tied the knot.
“I am the luckiest woman in the world,” she wrote on Instagram. “Not because I need a man, but because he found me and knew that I wanted to find happiness and grace, all at the same time. I am stunned that this is my husband. My life and my everything. Every woman should feel like this everyday.”
