Walter Isaacson said on Kara Swisherâs podcast that ânothing hurt me more than that relationship.â Isaacson said the relationship was filled with âstorms and turbulenceâ that were âpart of the attraction.â
Elon Muskâs biographer says the billionaireâs relationship with actress Amber Heard was what hurt him the most, even more than Muskâs strained relationship with his father.
âThe storm and the turmoil that both parties are talking to me about is not a point of contention, it was part of the attraction,â Walter Isaacson said on the latest episode of the âOn With Kara Swisherâ podcast. âPart of the theme of this life is that this person is drawn to drama and storm. When things are calm, they go out and buy Twitter or whatever. So thatâs true of his relationship with Amber. Nothing hurt him more than that relationship.â
Musk and Heardâs lawyer did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Musk and Heard dated on and off after getting close at the 2016 Met Gala. They went public with their relationship in April 2017 before announcing their split a few months later. They continued to see each other after their split before splitting again in 2018.
Isaacson spent two years following Musk for the biography, which hit bookstores last week.
The book describes the âpsychological disordersâ that have marked many of Muskâs romantic relationships. It recounts Muskâs first meeting with Heard: She asked him if she could visit SpaceX a year after the two men worked on the action film âMachete Kills,â with Heard as the star and Musk as a consultant.
Isaacson also documented the explosive arguments in their relationship, writing: âShe and Musk would stay up all night arguing, and then he wouldnât get up until the afternoon.â
In the biography, Heard said she liked Musk âa lot,â but that âElon likes fire and sometimes it burns him.â
When Isaacson asked Musk to explain his tumultuous love history, the billionaire replied: âIâm often a jerk, but especially in love.â
Canadian musician Grimes, Elon Muskâs ex with whom he shares three children, told Isaacson for the biography that Musk âassociates love with being mean or abusive,â in part because of his relationship with his father, Errol Musk.
Elon Musk has said that his father bullied and humiliated him throughout his life. In 2017, he told Rolling Stone that his father was a âterrible human beingâ who did âpretty much every bad thing imaginable.â
Errol Musk has denied reprimanding his son.
Elon Muskâs first wife, Justine Wilson, to whom he was married from 2000 to 2008, has spoken openly about their relationship.
âHe has a combative side,â she told Isaacson. âI donât think you can have a relationship with Elon without fighting.â
âWhen you come from a dysfunctional background or have a brain thatâs wired like his,â Wilson told Isaacson, âintensity replaces intimacy.â
