They performed a duet during the CMT 100 Greatest duets concert in 2005
Blake Shelton rocked an insane mullet and Miranda Lambert was becoming a country star. Little did the world know that the two should meet onstage during the CMT 100 Greatest Duets concert, where they both sang “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma.” Blake-Miranda shippers know the story back and forth: Blake and Miranda sang that song, looked deep into each other’s eyes and fell in love at first sight.
It doesn’t get much cuter than that! But there was one problem—Shelton was married! But nothing could stop these two from falling hard for each other right then and there, even though they both knew it was wrong.
“I was a married guy, you know, standing up there going, ‘Man, this shouldn’t be happening,’” Shelton said of the moment during Lambert’s Behind the Music special on VH1. “Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her right there onstage.”
Lambert, who married Shelton in 2011, agreed. “We had instant chemistry,” she revealed.
Although the trouble-in-paradise rumors plagued the couple for as long as they were married, both insisted that everything was OK, but they wanted to make sure they maintained their privacy despite living in the spotlight.
“We feel like we’re very honest with who we are and our relationship,” the 31-year-old “Heart Like Mine” singer said in another interview. “We’ve kinda told the good, the bad, the ugly as our relationship has progressed from the beginning till now. And people dig anyway and they make up lies, so I feel like, we don’t really hold back, because if you hold back they’re going to dig anyway so might as well just tell it.”
The Voice coach also told 60 Minutes that he and Lambert rarely did interviews together because they knew it would turn into something other than the business at hand.
“But for her and I to sit here together, it’s just going to turn into something about our marriage and it’s all we got left that’s private, is she and I and our home,” he explained. “And we just want to keep it that way.”
