Kamala Harris is running for president during the 2024 election against former president Donald Trump.

On Sunday, July 21, President Joe Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race after many calls for him to drop out came after his disastrous debate against Trump. In his announcement, Joe endorsed Kamala for the Democratic ticket, and she secured enough Democratic delegates to win the party nomination for the presidency.

Kamala then came out of her campaign headquarters on Monday evening, walking out to Beyoncé’s song, Freedom, featuring Kendrick Lamar from the 2016 Lemonade album.

According to romper, many called Freedom an anthem for African American empowerment. Throughout the song, Beyoncé and Kendrick sing about racism and injustices, going back to slavery in the United States. In his verse, he also rapped about police brutality against black men.

He rapped: “Seven misleadin’ statements ’bout my persona/Six headlights wavin’ in my direction/Five-O askin’ me what’s in my possession/Yeah I keep runnin’, jump in the aqueducts.”

Beyoncé’s message seems to be clear throughout the song. They could overcome what’s going on and freedom from social evils like racism, and liberation is within reach. The singer made herself the leader and calls for solidarity and unity.

She sang: “Freedom! Freedom! I can’t move/Freedom, cut me loose!/Singin’, freedom! Freedom! Where are you?/Cause I need freedom too!”

Beyoncé approved of Kamala using the song for her campaign but did not officially endorse the presidential candidate. A vote Kamala could definitely count on is from Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles. She endorsed Kamala after Joe announced he was dropping out of the race.

She wrote on Instagram: “New, Youthful, Sharp , energy !!!!” Knowles posted on her Instagram with a photo of herself alongside Harris. “Putting personal Ego , power and fame aside . That is the definition of a great leader, . Thank you, President Biden for your service and your leadership . Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Let’s Go.”

Beyoncé is no stranger when it comes to endorsing Democratic candidates. She sang the National Anthem at the inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2013. Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z headlined a pre-election concert for Clinton in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2016. Beyoncé also endorsed the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020.
