Byngoc quynhlt  Nov 8, 2024 Emily Ann Roberts relied on a modern hit from Cam, a country classic by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers and a Christmas staple to earn enough votes to make her Season 9’s winner on The Voice. Roberts’ collaboration with Blake Shelton to sing “Islands in the Stream” was one of the highlights of Monday night’s performance finale. The two stay true to the 1983 original. Shelton begins, singing right at Roberts. She’s standing by his side as she gazes up at him singing the second half of the first verse. The pair share an easy chemistry through the chorus before Roberts gets a chance to solo. The song didn’t require much in the way of choreography or staging. The Knoxville, Tenn., native would save that for later. Cam’s “Burning House” is one of the hottest songs in country music and one of Taste of Country’s Top 10 Songs of 2015. Roberts doesn’t mimic the California singer’s vulnerable flutter, but her performance aspired to be equally fragile. Sonically, very little was different from the version fans can find on Untamed. A burning doorway added mystery and drama to the 17-year-old’s solo performance. Roberts is facing off against fellow Team Blake member Barrett Baber, Team Adam’s Jordan Smith and Team Gwen’s Jeffery Austin. The winner will be announced on Tuesday night (Dec. 15) on NBC. Shelton is trying to win for a fifth time in nine seasons. If either Baber or Roberts win, they’ll be the show’s fourth country winner in nine seasons. (TB)
