Since the birth of their first daughter, Olympia, in 2017, Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams have embraced parenting with enthusiasm and creativity. Recently, Olympia’s curiosity and energy took center stage during a track and field meet hosted by Athlos, Ohanian’s sports startup in New York City.
The event featured world-class athletes like Gabby Thomas, Alexis Holmes and Faith Kipyegon, but it was Olympia who stole the show. Despite event regulations, Ohanian allowed his daughter a special moment to run on the track, a gesture that thrilled her.
Inspired by her experience, she expressed interest in pursuing track and field herself, adding another sport to her list of interests. For Ohanian, this was yet another opportunity to nurture her passions and encourage her adventurous spirit.
“Olympia was there, and it was so cool. She came to Athlos,” he noted.
“She was very nice and early, so I let her run on the track, warming up with some of the ladies.
“And after it was all over, way past her bedtime. But she still asked me, ‘Hey can I go and run on the track some more after?’ And I was so happy to let her oblige, so I let her run.
“And literally a day or two later, she came up to me and her mom and said, ‘I wanna run track now.’ And I was like, Okay, Okay! I mean, she is still doing tennis lessons, and I still do golf with her. We’ll see. We’ll see how well this track thing sticks.”
Ohanian’s foray into the sports world began as a way to support his wife’s legacy, but it has grown into something much bigger.
From helping launch Angel City FC, a groundbreaking women’s soccer team, to expanding his involvement in sports ventures, Ohanian‘s efforts are fueled by his dedication to creating opportunities and inspiration for his daughters.
