Michael Jackson Was Planning The Jackson 5 Reunion Tour Before His Death
Before his untimely death in 2009, Michael Jackson had big plans for the future, including a reunion tour with his brothers, The Jackson 5. Tito Jackson, Michael’s brother, revealed that Michael had hoped to surprise his fans with a Jackson 5 reunion towards the last leg of his tour. This tour, however, never came to fruition due to Michael’s passing.
Michael Jackson was set to perform at the O2 Arena in London, a venue that would mark the culmination of his “This Is It” concert series. Tito shared that the Jackson brothers were planning to join Michael during the final leg of his tour to perform together. “We were planning on adding on to his show at the end of that tour run,” Tito recalled on the Behind the Velvet Rope podcast with David Yantv. He explained that they had hoped to continue performing together, but tragically, those plans were interrupted by Michael’s sudden death.
Michael’s passing on June 25, 2009, left the world in mourning, especially for his family. Tito spoke emotionally about how the grief of losing Michael has deepened over the years. “It’s harder because mourning is something that’s very much needed, and it’s hard to get over, especially when it’s a sibling or family member,” Tito confessed. He also explained that, as a member of a famous family, he is constantly reminded of the loss whenever fans approach him in public to offer their condolences.
Though the Jackson brothers were unable to reunite with Michael on stage, Tito mentioned that a tour with his sister Janet Jackson is still a possibility. Tito acknowledged that it has been a long-discussed idea for the family to come together for a tour, and he expressed hope that it could eventually happen. “That’s been talked about for so many years and that’s very possible,” Tito said. “Hopefully, we can have the entire family on stage together someday.”
Despite the challenges, Tito remains grateful for his family’s musical legacy and enjoys his role as “Uncle Tito” to his sister Janet’s son. Tito reflected on Janet’s journey to motherhood, saying, “Janet is a fantastic mother… I never thought Janet would be a mother, but I think it’s natural for the females in my family to be good moms.”
Although the Jackson 5 reunion tour with Michael Jackson was a dream that was never realized, Tito Jackson’s words show the enduring bond of the Jackson family and their love for Michael’s legacy. Fans continue to hold out hope for future reunions and performances with the Jackson family, and as Tito stated, the world still loves The Jacksons.
