She and her brother were both homeschooled until sixth grade, making her early years quite private. The children were carefully shielded from the public eye as Michael Jackson was keen to allow them to stay out of the way. The children in Michael’s family either wore costumes or had their heads wrapped in scarves to hide their faces in early photographs.
As a result, life at Neverland Ranch was extremely restrictive for Paris and her siblings. No one can deny that they were immensely wealthy, but it must have been difficult, too. Speaking with model Naomi Campbell in a YouTube interview, Paris Jackson opened up about her father and her upbringing.
Today, it is his family members who receive the most attention. His children in particular are the target of attacks, as the Jackson family is a popular target for the paparazzi.
She said Michael Jackson made sure they were “cultured.”
“My dad really made sure we were cultured, that we were educated, and not just showing us the glitz and glamour, like five-star hotels,” Paris said.
“It was like we saw it all. We saw third world countries. We saw every facet of the spectrum.”
Paris Jackson lived all over the world during her childhood, while her father toured the world performing in front of hundreds of thousands of people.
She says she was very grateful for her “privileged” childhood. But at the same time, Paris learned early on that she shouldn’t feel privileged. Her father made sure his children understood the concept of having to work for things.
“Even when I was younger, it was about making money,” Paris said. “If we wanted five toys from FAO Schwarz or Toys ‘R’ Us, we had to read five books.
“You have to earn it, not just be entitled to certain things or think, ‘Oh, I have this,’” she added. “You have to work hard for it, it’s something completely different, it’s an accomplishment.”
