Sam Smith has been blasted by furious fans after admitting he ‘doesn’t like’ Michael Jackson.
The Stay With Me singer, 26, was caught on video saying ‘I don’t like Michael Jackson but this is a good song’, while listening to one of the late pop icon’s tracks during a boat trip with fellow musician Adam Lambert.
Although Adam quickly deleted the Instagram clip on Saturday, it didn’t stop Michael Jackson fans venting their fury on Twitter – with one even calling for Sam to make a public apology.

Controversy: Sam Smith has been caught on video saying he ‘doesn’t like’ Michael Jackson… and blasted by seething fans who called for a public apology
‘Here is the thing if you say ‘I don’t like Michael Jackson’s music’ I can tolerate it, but if you say ‘You don’t like MJ’ its personal! Did you ever even meet him?’ one fan raged.
Another added: ‘This probably sounds like an over exaggeration but Sam Smith should be forced into apologizing for saying he doesn’t like Michael Jackson.’
‘Yes Sam Smith can have his opinion, of course. But you can’t just say ‘I don’t like Michael Jackson’, you have to say ‘I’m very sorry but Michael Jackson’s songs aren’t my fave.’ That’s it. Pay some respect to the ultimate LEGEND and forever #1 of billions,’ a third wrote.
A fourth follower penned: ‘Sam Smith is over. What self respecting musician says they don’t like Michael Jackson? Honey..’

Backlash: Adam (pictured) quickly deleted the Instagram clip on Saturday amid backlash
However, others rushed to Sam’s defence, insisting the I’m Not The Only One singer is entitled to his opinion.
‘Sam Smith saying he doesn’t like Michael Jackson doesn’t mean s**t! god I can list so many good artists that I don’t like their music and it’s MY opinion. He shouldn’t pretend to like everyone’s music because he’s famous.. he wasn’t even hating!’ one fan wrote.
‘Okay but in all seriousness, idk why people would drag Sam Smith for not liking Michael Jackson. not everyone has to like every celebrity. it’s so dumb to start drama over. we are all human. just don’t bring attention to it,’ a second user penned.
MailOnline has contacted Sam’s representative for comment.

Fury: Michael Jackson fans took to Twitter to vent their fury
It comes after Sam admitted he’s ‘going through some s***’ amid his rumoured split from 13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn.
Candidly addressing the crowd at a New York gig in June, he said: ‘I know that everyone in this room right now is going through some s***. I know I’m going through some s***.’
Sam and Brandon are understood to have broke things off in June – with a source telling The Sun: ‘Sam and Brandon had a real whirlwind romance. They really fell for each other. But they are both so busy with their careers and unfortunately things just haven’t worked out.’

Support: However, others rushed to Sam’s defence, insisting the I’m Not The Only One singer is entitled to his opinion
The singer – who has deleted a number of snaps of the pair from his social media accounts – is said to be ‘devastated’ about the split, as 24-year-old Brandon was ‘the most significant’ romance the Too Good At Goodbyes singer has had.
The insider added: ‘Sam is obviously devastated. This is the most significant relationship he has ever had. Thankfully he is on tour across the US at the moment which has been a welcome distraction.’
The alleged split comes just months after the singer claimed he was excited to finally pen some ‘happy love songs’ after finding love with the actor.
Speaking in January, he said: ‘I’m in a relationship right now and for the first time, I think I deserve to be happy. I’m actually asking myself if I’m going to be writing some happy love songs soon.’
