Serena Williams doesn’t think women’s sports are having a moment right now as she pointed out that women athletes were always there competing and breaking records but were not recognized much. During an interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin, Williams was asked about the current state of women’s sports.
Williams, one of the greatest tennis players, has lifted 23 Grand Slam singles titles and her success probably was one of the reasons women’s tennis became popular. She also claimed that she and her sister, seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams, helped in viewership in Grand Slam events.
While women athletes have been accomplishing great things, Williams pointed out that ‘people are just realizing that’ and investing in them.
So I always say that women’s sports are not having a moment. It’s always been there. Women athletes have always been around. We’ve always been amazing and we’ve always been great. You guys are just noticing, and I think it’s important that people realize that.

Serena Williams talks about the importance of failure

Stubbs had said that Williams used to hold on to grudge a lot and it helped her win matches. In response, Williams talked about how the defeats also shaped her career.
My big this in tennis, like, I never wanted to lose. But unfortunately, I think when you do lose, you learn some of your biggest lessons. And I kind of- every loss that I had, I kind of needed that to actually become Serena Williams, or I would have never been this person had I not taken some of those really, really hard falls, and some losses that, quite frankly, sucked.

Williams then revealed that after losing a match, she used to punish herself and would watch the footage of her defeats to learn about the mistakes she made.
Williams retired at the 2022 US Open. Along with the singles, Williams also lifted 14 Grand Slam doubles titles with Venus Williams. The 73-time singles title winner has also won two Majors in mixed doubles with Belarus’ Max Mirnyi.
