IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s basketball team defeated Purdue, 84-63, in its Big Ten home opener on Sunday afternoon at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes improved their record to 11-2.

Senior Addi O’Grady led the team with 12 points and three rebounds, while junior Hannah Stuelke contributed nine points and six rebounds. Sydney Affolter displayed her versatility with nine points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Freshman Ava Heiden nearly achieved a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

First Quarter
Iowa opened the game with a strong offensive showing, outscoring Purdue 27-13. The Hawkeyes shot an impressive 66.7% from the field, with Lucy Olsen scoring six points and Taylor Stremlow adding five points and two assists. Iowa also controlled the boards, out-rebounding Purdue 12-6. The quarter ended with an 11-2 scoring run by the Hawkeyes.

Second Quarter
The Hawkeyes extended their lead to 50-32 by halftime. Although Purdue began the period with an 11-3 run to cut the deficit to six points, Iowa responded with a 15-3 run to close the half. Jada Guyton scored seven points, including a three-pointer and a layup, while Affolter contributed five points and three rebounds.

Third Quarter
Purdue started strong again, narrowing Iowa’s lead to just eight points. However, the Hawkeyes quickly regained momentum behind O’Grady and Stuelke, who combined for 11 points in the quarter. Molly Feuerbach closed the period with a three-pointer, giving Iowa a commanding 66-47 lead.

Fourth Quarter
Iowa maintained control in the final quarter, outscoring Purdue 18-16. The Hawkeye bench played a key role, contributing 15 points. Iowa achieved its largest lead of the game—27 points—late in the period, securing the 84-63 victory.

Taylor Stremlow recorded a career-high nine points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

Lucy Olsen and Sydney Affolter tied for a team-high six assists.
