Kanye West Finds Buyer For $53 Million Mansion He Turned Into A ‘Bomb Shelter’ With No Electricity Or Windows – After $12 Million Price Cut

Kanye West’s actions concerning his Malibu beach house have once again drawn attention to his unconventional behavior. The rapper purchased the 4,000-square-foot oceanfront property, designed by Pritzker prize-winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando, in 2021. However, rather than embracing the modernist aesthetics and luxurious features of the original home, West embarked on a drastic renovation project.

In the months following his acquisition, West hired construction workers to gut the property. They removed the custom wood cabinetry, painted over the wood, demolished the chimneys, and hammered away at the marble walls. West’s vision for the space was one of “clarity, simplicity, and a kind of self-reliance.” To achieve this, he eliminated features like air conditioning, water, power, and cable.

West’s actions were seen as a complete disregard for the architectural integrity of the property. Despite his professed reverence for Ando, whom he described as the “greatest living architect” and the “Ye of all the architects,” West’s renovation choices effectively transformed the home into a “bomb shelter” or “Batcave,” as he himself described it.

After owning the property for nearly three years, West decided to put it on the market. In January 2024, the five-bedroom, four-bathroom home was listed for $53 million through the Oppenheim Group. However, in April, the price was reduced to $39 million. Recently, it was reported that the property is now in escrow, indicating that West may have found a buyer who appreciates (or is willing to take on) the unique and controversial nature of the home.

West has been embroiled in a multitude of controversies for a long time. Most recently, he faced legal action for his treatment of his workers and his alleged control over his wife, Bianca Censori. Despite these issues, West continues to make headlines with his bold and often contentious decisions.

Kanye West’s renovation of his Malibu beach house reflects his unconventional vision and approach to architecture. While his choices have sparked criticism and controversy, they also underscore his desire to push boundaries and redefine spaces according to his unique perspective. As the property moves towards a potential sale, it remains to be seen how the new owner will navigate the transformed and polarizing home.
