Kris Jenner and her daughter Kim Kardashian both took to their respective Instagram pages to share heartfelt tributes to family matriarch Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon on her 90th birthday.
Kris Jenner’s post included several photos of herself with her mother, both in throwback snaps and more recent times, as well as images of MJ with her grandchildren over the years.
“Thank you my beautiful mommy, for teaching me to be a strong, independent woman,” the proud daughter wrote in the caption. “Thankful for everything, expecting nothing, but willing to work as hard as I can for everything and at the same time to be kind to everyone and generous beyond measure.”
Jenner, 68, went on to share how her mother “taught by example,” before revealing how grateful she is knowing “God has blessed us with 90 years of beautiful you, and I thank Him every single day for another precious day with my best friend.”
She concluded, “Thank you for all you do for all of us and for every single fabulous moment and memory that I cherish. You are truly my role model and hero and I love you more than you will ever know. I love you, Kristen xo.”
The cover photo showed the birthday girl posing with her daughter Kris and granddaughter Kim this past year, with all three donning blonde locks.
From there, the tribute delves back in years to show a young Kris, who is the mother of six, seemingly in the 1980s sitting alongside MJ, and another of her ice skating with Kim and Kourtney when they were young girls.
Top model Kendall Jenner, 28, is also seen with her grandmother dressed identically in witchy ensembles, seemingly for Halloween, when she was in her formative years.
There are more photos of family members with MJ all decked out in Halloween costumes, leading up to the last photo showing MJ helping Kris with the finishing touches on her wedding dress and veil ahead of her nuptials with Robert Kardashian in 1978.
A little later on Friday, granddaughter Kim also took to her Instagram page to share her thoughts and emotions about her beloved MJ.
“My sweet and stylish MJ turns 90 today! I don’t know what I would do without you grandma. We have the best memories that I’m burnt into my soul forever!” Kim, 43, gushed, before revealing some of the events they shared.
“From staying with you in the summers growing up and you taking us to the beach to our long Sunday talks and tea sessions. You really have been the best example of strength and independence,” she wrote, alongside two photos of herself with her mother and grandmother.
“Seeing you start a business and run your store has been so inspirational! But seeing you beat cancer twice without any complaints and showing us what it takes to fight has set the tone for all of us and our outlook on life.”
She ended, “I just can’t even describe on here how much you mean to me and all of us. Forever the voice of reason and the best advice giver best friend vault in the whole wide world! Happy Birthday grandma. I love you so much!”
MJ was married to Kris’s father, Robert Houghton, until his death at 43 in 1975 following a drunk driving accident.
She would later remarry a third time to Harry Shannon, a well-known businessman, but sadly he was killed in a car accident in 2003 after nearly 40 years of marriage.
