“SHE’S LOYAL”: Anna Wintour ‘invited’ KIM Kardashian to be involved with Hulu’s In Vogue: The 90s and reality star ‘would never say no’

Kim Kardashian’s appearance in the upcoming Hulu documentary “In Vogue: The 90s” has stirred controversy due to her age during that decade and her relatively recent influence on the fashion industry. The six-part series features prominent figures from the 1990s, such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Hurley, and Kate Moss, who were central to the fashion scene at the time.

Kim, 43, is featured as a talking head in the series, which has led to some questioning what personal insights she can offer about Vogue magazine’s impact on fashion in the ’90s, given that she was just a child during that period. According to an insider with ties to the streaming giant, Kim’s involvement in the documentary is primarily due to her strong, long-standing relationship with Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. The source explained that Kim’s inclusion was not a result of her campaigning for a spot or exerting pressure; instead, she was personally invited by Anna Wintour, and Kim participated without any financial compensation.

Kim’s relationship with Hulu, which produces her family’s reality show “The Kardashians,” also played a role in her appearance. The series also features commentary from notable personalities such as Mary J. Blige, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman, Claire Danes, and Naomi Campbell, alongside Vogue editors like Edward Enninful, Tonne Goodman, and Hamish Bowles.

The documentary’s inclusion of these figures, who significantly shaped the fashion world during the 1990s, seems more expected and fitting. Fans expressed their confusion and criticism on social media, questioning Kim’s relevance in a documentary focused on a period when she was not yet an influential figure in fashion. Some fans acknowledged Kim’s status as a reality pop culture icon but noted that her style and influence only emerged later, long after the 1990s.

Kim has graced the cover of American Vogue three times: first with her then-fiancé Kanye West in April 2014, her first solo cover in May 2019, and most recently in March 2022.

“In Vogue: The 90s” is set to premiere on Hulu in the US on September 13 and will be available on Disney+ in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
