Kansas City Chiefs rookie WR Xavier Worthy was the lone bright spot on offense during the Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and his comments made after the loss show he’s already learned much in his young NFL career.

Worthy caught all eight of his targets on the night for 157 yards and two touchdowns. To put it into greater perspective, Worthy accounted for over 60% of Patrick Mahomes’ passing yards in the loss.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Worthy had the perspective of a 10-year veteran and not a bright-eyed 21-year-old rookie. It started with crediting all of his teammates for all his successes.

“I got to give all the credit to my guys in the room,” Worthy said. “Them, and Trav (Kelce), and Pat (Mahomes). Just Pat, for believing in me, for putting the ball up there and throwing them to help me, trusting me to go out there and make a play.”

After giving his teammates their props, Worthy was asked what they’d take from the loss. You wouldn’t expect to hear his response from a first-year NFL player, which goes to show how far he’s come in just a season.

“Just carry this into training camp,” Worthy said. “I feel like we’re going to be back. Just use this feeling to build. . . Just to build on next season to get better. Use this as motivation to come harder next year.”

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy sends message on social media after Super Bowl loss

Worthy carried over that maturity to social media after the game, sending a message to show thanks for what his rookie season brought.

“Super Bowl appearance rookie year beyond blessed appreciate my dawgs man going out there and going to war all season but this isn’t the end. This is nothing but motivation and something to build on in the offseason.”

Although Kansas City’s current situation may look bleak, they clearly have a good one in Worthy. He’ll be better off after Super Bowl LIX, even if it ultimately didn’t go the team’s way.
