The Steelers have signed cornerback Darius Slay to a one-year deal. Slay was drafted 36th overall in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He spent seven years with the Lions before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020, where he played for five seasons.
Slay’s career highlights include a First-Team AP All-Pro nod in 2017, six Pro Bowl selections (2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024), and he was a starter on the Eagles team that won Super Bowl LIX.

Darius Slay, born on January 1, 1991, in Brunswick, Georgia, has built a distinguished career as an NFL cornerback. In high school, he was a multi-sport athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and track. As a senior, he rushed for over 1,300 yards and earned All-State honors. Despite a knee injury in his junior year, his athleticism and versatility stood out.
Slay began his college career at Itawamba Community College, where he made an immediate impact with strong defensive performances. His play earned him All-State recognition and led to a transfer to Mississippi State University. In the 2013 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected Slay in the second round, 36th overall. He quickly became a starting cornerback, developing into one of the league’s best at his position. In 2017, he led the NFL with eight interceptions and 26 passes defended, earning First-Team All-Pro honors and his first Pro Bowl selection. His time in Detroit cemented his reputation as a shutdown cornerback.
In 2020, Slay was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he signed a three-year, $50 million extension. He switched to jersey number 24 to honor Kobe Bryant. With the Eagles, he continued his high-level play, earning Pro Bowl selections in 2021, 2022, and 2023. His leadership and playmaking ability were key in helping the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX in 2025.
