Former Michigan Wolverines assistant football coach Matt Weiss is in huge legal trouble.

The ex-Baltimore Ravens coach is facing a federal lawsuit from two former female student-athletes for stealing their intimate photos. The athletes accused Weiss of engaging in illegal acts by hacking into their personal accounts to steal private photos.

Weiss held the position of quarterbacks coach and later co-offensive coordinator during the 2021-22 seasons. During that time, he was indicted with 14 counts of unauthorized access to computers and 10 counts of aggravated identity theft on March 20, 2025.

The lawsuit claims that Weiss illegally accessed a database containing information on over 100 college athletes managed by Keffer Development Services, a third-party vendor. He allegedly downloaded personal information and medical data corresponding to more than 150,000 athletes.

It subsequently breached the email, social media, and cloud storage accounts of over 3,000 athletes. The women involved in the lawsuit include one former gymnast who competed between 2017 and 2018 and a soccer player from 2017 to 2023.

According to them, Weiss’s actions severely violated their privacy. The lawsuit contends that this violation resulted from the negligence of the University of Michigan and its Board of Regents in supervising Weiss.

In his defense, Weiss has entered a not-guilty plea and could face significant prison time if convicted. He will serve jail for up to five years for each count of unauthorized access. Additionally, two years for each count of aggravated identity theft.

This took place during a brief court appearance in federal court in Detroit on March 24, 2025. Just four days later, a 14-page indictment was filed against him.

“I have nothing but respect for the University of Michigan and the people who make it such a great place. I look forward to putting this matter behind me and returning my focus to the game that I love,” Weiss said after his firing, as per The Spun.

Before his tenure at Michigan, Weiss was part of the Baltimore Ravens coaching staff for over a decade.

Weiss had spent two seasons with the University of Michigan, serving as co-offensive coordinator during the 2022 season. During that time, the Wolverines achieved an impressive 13-1 record and played in the college football playoff.

However, he was fired in 2023 for failing to cooperate with a school investigation into his activities. Prior to that, he had over ten years of coaching experience with the NFL’s Ravens.
