Khatia Buniatishvili brings The Seattle Symphony’s Opening Night Concert recently celebrated an exhilarating season launch with Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue
Held at the prestigious Benaroya Hall on September 14, 2024, this concert brought together jazz and classical influences, capturing the vibrant energy of 1920s New York. Conducted by Ludovic Morlot, the evening’s program took audiences through a rich musical journey that also explored rhythms and influences from Latin American music, honoring the diverse sounds of Brazil, Mexico, and Spain. This vibrant kickoff to the Symphony’s 2024-2025 season also introduced several contemporary works by composers from underrepresented groups, highlighting Seattle Symphony’s commitment to inclusivity and musical exploration
The performance was not only a homage to Gershwin’s groundbreaking work but also a celebration of cultural fusion, setting a lively and innovative tone for the Symphony’s season ahead. More details and tickets for future concerts can be found on the Seattle Symphony’s website.
Conductor Emeritus Ludovic Morlot opens our season with a sparkling Latin party. Inspired by Brazil, Mexico and of course, Spain, the evening will be full of sunlight and rhythm. Georgian-French pianist Khatia Buniatishvili also joins us to play George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue — marking the 100th anniversary of this legendary orchestral jazz work.
