Marshall Faulk is a Pro Football Hall-of-Fame running back inductee who is certainly qualified to speak to young people.

On Monday, thousands of people found out why he was hired as the new running backs coach at the University of Colorado, becoming the third Hall of Famer to join the coaching staff of the Buffaloes, including head coach Deion Sanders.

The former St. Louis Rams and San Diego State Aztecs superstar delivered a fiery speech in which he boldly challenged Buffaloes players to play better.

“I’m new; for those of you who don’t know me, I’m Marshall Faulk,” he said.

“I’m Google-able, check me out,” Marshall Faulk continued.

The former Rams running back then challenged the Buffaloes’ players to focus on effort and the details in their playing careers.

“How you do one thing is how you do everything,” Faulk said.

“Think about that. If you slack off in school, then at some point in time, the guy to your left, the guy to your right, the guy in front of you, the guy behind you, they can’t count on you because you’re going to slack off,” Faulk added.

“What we want from you, it requires no talent. Effort requires no talent. Hustle requires no talent.

“If you bring effort, watch what it brings to you,” Faulk concluded. “Thank you.”

It’s not clear if Faulk has ever coached before, but judging from that speech, he should’ve received his opportunity to lead a team.

At Colorado, Faulk will be charged with improving a running game that ranked last in the nation in rushing yards per game in 2023 and 2024.

Here is how social media reacted to Faulk’s speech:

“effort requires no talent,” 🔥, one fan stated in his speech.

“deion really got all the dawgs from his era to coach w him,” a second fan said.

“Any running back that doesn’t want to play for Coach Faulk is making a big mistake. He will make any and all players he coaches better,” a third person commented.

“awesome advice from a HOFer,” one final person added.

The younger crowd might not be familiar with him, but he certainly has a Hall of Fame pedigree. Faulk’s playing career is one of the most decorated in football history.

He was so good that he won the 2000 NFL MVP, earned seven Pro Bowl selections, and helped lead the St. Louis Rams to a Super Bowl victory.

Marshall Faulk retired from the NFL with 12,279 rushing yards, the ninth-most in NFL history.
