More Aaron Rodgers to the Vikings steam continues to come out and it doesn’t make sense for one main reason

Oct 6, 2024; London, United Kingdom; New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) throws the ball under pressure from Minnesota Vikings linebacker Jonathan Greenard (58) in the fourth quarter at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Could Aaron Rodgers land with the Minnesota Vikings in free agency for the 2025 season and fulfill the prophecy of Brett Favre? The steam continues to be there with the latest report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini says that the Vikings are “still evaluating their options” when it comes to the quarterback position.

Aaron Rodgers to the Vikings is a weird situation

Rodgers is still trying to make a decision on his future with reports surfacing that he could take 4-5 months to do so. Rodgers waiting that long could be dangerous for his future, as all of the jobs could be open.

How do the Vikings play into this? Obviously the Favre connection is the big one, but they also need a veteran quarterback to pair with J.J. McCarthy. ESPN and Vikings beat writer Kevin Seifert talked about the possibility of adding Rodgers.

The interesting thing when it comes to the Vikings is Seifert saying that the organization is “entertaining the possibility of what it would look like to add (Aaron) Rodgers to this quarterback room.” While adding Rodgers on the surface doesn’t make a lot of sense, it also speaks to the Vikings that they will explore every possible outcome to make the team better.

Is it the best option for Rodgers? Well, it would likely mean a camp competition because McCarthy was selected 10th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Would Rodgers’ ego allow him to be in that situation?

There is also the other element of reporting here. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said that Rodgers is deciding between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants with no mentions of the Vikings.

This says nothing about the Vikings, who are gearing up for a potential Super Bowl run and spending a lot of money in free agency. They could be a great team with McCarthy at the helm and not spending a lot of money on a quarterback who has been in decline for a few years.

It doesn’t make sense and the reporting across the board feels like posturing by the Rodgers camp.
