LaVar Arrington II hasn’t taken a single snap in the NCAA yet, but you wouldn’t know it by simply looking at him.
The son of former Pro Bowl linebacker LaVar Arrington, LaVar Arrington II is a 17-year-old football sensation at Charter Oak High School in Covina, California. Former NFL cornerback Jason David and fullback Keith Smith also attended the school.
The younger Arrington committed to the Penn State Nittany Lions last year and officially signed with the school’s 2025 recruiting class. The elder Arrington played at Penn State from 1997 to 1999, winning the Jack Lambert Trophy and the Chuck Bednarik and Butkus Awards in 1999.
Now, if you weren’t told ahead of time that LaVar Arrington II is a 17-year-old preparing for his first NCAA season, would you believe us? Look how shredded this guy already is:
Arrington will join a stingy Penn State defense that allowed just 16.5 points per game in 2024, the eighth-best mark in the nation. James Franklin’s group advanced to the Orange Bowl/College Football Playoff semifinal but fell 27-24 to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Penn State will kick off their 2025 season at home against the Nevada Wolf Pack on Aug. 30.

After cleaning up at the 1999 NCAAF award ceremony, Arrington was taken second overall by Washington in the 2000 NFL Draft, behind Penn State teammate and defensive end Courtney Brown.
LaVar Arrington looked like a potential future Hall of Famer in his tenure with Washington, earning three Pro Bowl selections and two Second-team All-Pro nods. In the 2006 offseason, he signed a seven-year deal with the New York Giants.
Unfortunately, Arrington missed most of the year after rupturing his Achilles tendon. In June 2007, he suffered severe injuries in a motorcycle accident that prompted him to retire just after his 29th birthday.
