According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Adam Schefter, the Las Vegas Raiders have hired Chip Kelly as their new offensive coordinator. Kelly will work under new head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek.

Kelly was Oregon’s head coach from 2009 to 2012 before taking the Philadelphia Eagles’ head coaching position in 2013. To begin his NFL career, he led them to consecutive 10-6 seasons, but he was fired after losing nine of 15 games in 2015.

In a surprise move, the San Francisco 49ers hired Kelly for their HC vacancy after firing Jim Tomsula. The 49ers finished with a disastrous 2-14 record, leading to Kelly’s firing.

Chip Kelly returned to the college ranks in 2018, accepting the Bruins’ HC position. He stayed there for six seasons before walking away in 2024 to accept the Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator position under Ryan Day.

Chip Kelly Has A Long Task Ahead In Las Vegas

The Raiders have a pair of star pass-catchers in tight end Brock Bowers and veteran wideout Jakobi Meyers. That’s about it, though, with Gardner Minshew II and Aidan O’Connell providing little excitement behind center.

Las Vegas needs to upgrade its quarterback room, offensive line and ground game. If that’s not done, then Kelly will have an awfully difficult year in Sin City.
