Kansas City Chiefs News
The NFL has announced that it will play its first ever regular season game in Melbourne, Australia in 2026. The Los Angeles Rams will be the designated home team, but their opponent has yet to be determined.
Among the teams that they could potentially play is the Kansas City Chiefs. The AFC West will play the NFC West in 2026, and the Rams are set to host the Chiefs. That means their matchup is fair game to be selected to be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.
It would be a smart decision on the league’s part. The Chiefs are the most successful and recognizable team of the past decade, and will likely still be a powerhouse in 2026. Too often international matchups aren’t very intriguing, so picking the Rams’ matchup against Kansas City would help change that trend.
The Chiefs have played in three international games since 2015. In that year they played the Detroit Lions in London, England at Wembley Stadium; winning in a 45-10 blowout. They then faced the Los Angeles Chargers in Mexico City at Azteca Stadium during the 2018 season, coming out on top 24-17. Fast forward to 2023, K.C. beat the Miami Dolphins 21-14 in Frankfurt, Germany at Frankfurt Stadium.
A positive for the Chiefs would be that they wouldn’t have to surrender a home game, unlike in 2023 when they played in Germany. It also gives the team a chance to check out a city and country that they may not have ever visited. That applies to Chiefs fans too, as Australia could be a dream destination to attend a game.
