The Green Bay Packers has a style. And after three decades with the same philosophy under the Ron Wolf tree, it’s easier to follow trends and preferences. After the NFL Combine, A to Z Sports had a piece talking about how Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon would be a great fit for the Packers.
Well, it’s post-Combine week, and there are mocks all around the media. Two of the most respected ones,
The Athletic’s Dane Brugler and ESPN’s Jordan Reid, both mocked Harmon to Green Bay as well.
Dane Brugler
Harmon (6-4 1/2, 313) was one of only two defensive tackles weighing more than 305 pounds to run under 5.00 seconds in the 40-yard dash — he did it in 4.95. His athleticism off the ball was reflected in his FBS-best 55 pressures last season.
Jordan Reid
Considering the draft capital the Packers have used on the defensive line, the returns haven’t been as good as they hoped. Let’s get Green Bay a difference-maker. At just under 6-foot-5 and 313 pounds, Harmon had an FBS-best 34 pressures at defensive tackle, and his 10.7% pressure rate ranked second among all defensive tackles. Harmon was also a big winner at the combine, running the 40-yard dash in 4.95 seconds. He needs to do a better job of playing with more control and finishing, but he’s the type of interior presence that’s needed in Green Bay alongside Kenny Clark.
It’s clear how much Harmon fits well into what the Packers need and what defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley wants to run schematically.
And it’s also relevant that defensive tackle is a real long-term need for the Packers. Kenny Clark had a down year in 2024, Devonte Wyatt hasn’t established himself as a full-time starter, and TJ Slaton is a free agent.
Based on Harmon’s athletic profile and style, and what the Packers expect and need from first-round prospects, the defensive tackle is a likely candidate to be in Green Bay soon.
