They’ve performed together as coaches on The Voice, but there’s something about Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton enjoying a simple duet on set of Clarkson’s show together that tugs the heartstrings. On a Road Trip episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson invited Shelton to the set with his guitar.
The two sang a charming duet of Shelton’s 2001 song “Austin.” Shelton accompanied on his guitar, while Clarkson sang harmonies with him. Before starting, Shelton joked that “I’ve never heard you sing on this show,” which Clarkson got a laugh from. Of course, she starts every show by singing a cover for Kellyoke. Then, Shelton launched into the song.
As the video claims, “Blake Shelton & Kelly Clarkson DUET of our dreams!” Fans in the comments loved the stripped-back nature of their duet as well. They also commented on Kelly Clarkson’s talent, and begged for a Shelton/Clarkson series of duets. “Such a beautiful song, her duet on his song is just magic,” one person wrote.
“Love Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. They are awesome artists and they do a great job on The Voice,” another fan noted. This comment was, of course, from 2023, when both Shelton and Clarkson were still on The Voice for season 23. They both left after that season, however. Still, fans hold a soft spot for the two. Many wish one or both of them would return to the show. Clarkson, however, is busy with her wildly successful daytime talk show, while Shelton is occupied by being married to Gwen Stefani.
Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton Covered “Austin” Last Year, While Recently Clarkson Honored New American Idol Judge Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood is returning to the show that started it all for her, joining Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie as an American Idol judge. To celebrate the milestone, another former Idol, Kelly Clarkson, covered Underwood’s song “Blown Away” during the Kellyoke segment of her talk show.
Clarkson channeled Underwood through every note, which couldn’t have been hard considering they’re both talented belters. Fans gathered in the comments section on YouTube to share their love for the cover.
“This was way better than the one she did on tour. Way more powerful. And more high notes especially the ending. Thank you lord for this version. It’s what I was hoping it would be,” one person wrote. Another commented, “I tear up hearing you sing you show your feelings and heartfelt heart and soul. God blessed you with your beautiful voice.”
Many more comments played into the title of the song, with fans writing, “I am blown away by this performance.”
