Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani’s duet on “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” is #CoupleGoals
Power couple Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani sang a super cute duet together on “Go Ahead and Break My Heart”. Aside from being just a great performance, the duet caught fans’ attention for how much chemistry the couple showed onstage, as they looked into each other’s eyes throughout the song. The pair played the song at Shelton’s show at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles. Before singing the duet, Shelton told the crowd, “I only started this song just to try and impress (Stefani). I sent her half the song and she wrote the other half.” Stefani simply told him, “It worked,” then the pair launched into the country pop tune. You could really see the connection between the lovers and it was really sweet to see them sing their hearts out to each other onstage.
It almost seems like Shelton’s baritone was made to sing along with Stefani’s mezzo-soprano, which is perhaps why they’ve collaborated so many times over the years. The country star played acoustic guitar on the number, and the band was really firing on all cylinders as well. One of the high parts in the arrangement is the melodic electric guitar solo in the bridge.
Fans really responded to the duet, and tuned in on YouTube 13 million times, making it the most popular live performance on Shelton’s channel. Fans went to the comments to show their appreciation, adding comments such as “The look they gave each other the entire performance! I’m in tears. This was beautiful. I felt their love” and “I love the fact that Gwen loves him so much she’s singing country but still dresses rock.” Another popular live cut from the couple is their duet on “Nobody But You”.
Stefani and Shelton met in 2014 when they were working as coaches on The Voice. They initially connected as friends, and throughout 2015, they both went through high-profile divorces. The pair announced they were a couple in November 2015.
Stefani and Shelton co-wrote “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” and released the song on May 9, 2016, which is also the same year as the live performance video from earlier in the article. The song was featured on Shelton’s 10th studio album, If I’m Honest, and peaked at 13 on the US Hot Country Songs chart.
