Jelly Roll has always been candid about his struggles with feeling like an outsider, but now, he has a new companion to keep him company: a mini donkey. In a surprising and heartwarming turn, Jelly Roll shared his recent acquisition on social media, joking that this adorable animal might just be the antidote to the feeling of being left out.

Once hawking hip-hop mixtapes out of his car, Jelly Roll became a household name with his 2023 country music debut, Whitsitt Chapel. 2024 only brought more flowers as the Antioch, Tennessee-born artist (real name: Jason DeFord) snagged his first-ever No. 1 album with Beautifully Broken. Recently, wife Bunnie Xo and daughter Bailee decided to celebrate Jelly’s success by getting themselves a gift. But when Jelly Roll felt excluded, they had to make it right.

Jelly Roll’s New BFF Is “A Stubborn F—er”

Jelly Roll and his family are carving out their own slice of paradise. Last year, they purchased 500 acres of farmland in the Nashville area. In December, they indicated plans to double that acreage.

Of course, you can’t have a farm without farm animals. Deciding to get started, Bunnie Xo and stepdaughter Bailee decided it was time to adopt their first miniature highland cow. So naturally, they came home with three.

Jelly was thrilled to meet Brownie, S’mores and Crunch. However, the mini cow-to-human ratio was a tad askew on the DeFord homestead. The Grammy nominee’s 8-year-old son, Noah, felt an instant bond with Crunch.

“He’s small, we have the same hair, and he’s probably nice,” the young boy explained.

Bailee, 16, declared herself “meant to be” with Brownie, and Bunnie formed a connection with S’more. That left Jelly Roll out in the cold, and Bunnie couldn’t have that.

“Yesterday my husband was upset everyone got a farm animal except for him,” the Dumb Blonde podcast host wrote on social media Sunday (Jan. 5.) “So today we had his own farm animal delivered.”

Anxious to meet his new BFF, Jelly smoothed his hair as the family readied for Grizz the mini-donkey. “First impressions last a lifetime. It’s my first time seeing Donkey,” he explained.

Love At First Sight?

Upon their meeting, a beaming Jelly Roll declared Grizz “the best donkey ever.” However, his perspective shifted slightly watching the animal handler struggling to help Grizz settle into his new pasture. “He’s a stubborn f—er,” the “I Am Not Okay” singer said.

Fans delighted in seeing the three-time CMT Award winner so happy. “His excitement is so infectious!” one Instagram user commented.
