The Voice Season 23 Coaches Kelly Clarkson and Niall Horan joined forces on The Kelly Clarkson Show to show off their incredible harmonizing skills with a game of “Catch a Riff of This.”
The rules? The guitarist will play a riff of a famous song, and the first person to guess either the song title or the Artist will receive a point. The best part? Clarkson and Horan are then required to sing along to the song together with as much enthusiasm as possible.
Watch their duet below.
The game started with the guitarist playing an upbeat riff, which Clarkson guessed correctly almost instantly. The tune in question was “Are You Gonna Go My Way” by Lenny Kravitz. After Clarkson imitated the sound of the guitars, she and Horan grabbed their microphones and began to sing the lyrics together.
“Though I’m not paid, I play this game, and I won’t stop until I’m done,” they sang energetically.
Then, the two pulled off a totally mind-blowing improvised harmony while singing the lyrics “But what I really wanna know is, are you gonna go my way.” Clarkson and Horan even surprised themselves with how good it was that Horan’s jaw dropped open and Clarkson trotted across the stage to give him a congratulatory hug.
“That was an incredible harmony, what?!” Clarkson cheered before getting a bonus point for her eagerness.
The next song in the lineup was “Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Berry, which Clarkson incorrectly guessed as a Stevie Ray Vaughan tune. Horan drew a blank when it was his turn to steal, and then Clarkson corrected herself to the right answer. While neither of them got initial points for the round, they still had the opportunity to wow the crowd with their vocals. This time, Horan ended up getting a bonus point for his charisma!
Up next was “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield, which Clarkson again nailed instantly. “I wish that I had Jessie’s girl, where can I find a woman like that,” she sang.
Then, to sway the Host into gaining more points, Horan finished the duet by crooning the lyrics “Jessie’s girl” while gazing right at her. It worked, as Horan was awarded five more points for style alone.
For the fourth and final cue, the guitarist started playing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar. After some hesitation, Clarkson ended up getting the point and winning the game.
