An article on Taste of Country reports that “American Idol” contestant Scotty McCreery, 17, got a surprise visit from his hero, Josh Turner, during his hometown concert on Saturday, May 14.

McCreery had just begun his “theme song” when Turner walked on stage and picked up the next verse.

“Oh my goodness!” McCreery shouted while waving off his band.

Fans screamed, cried and proposed marriage during McCreery’s hometown visit to Garner, North Carolina.

“All these people are here for you,” Turner told McCreery. “I had heard you never sang this song with a band before and were a little bit nervous, so I decided I would bring a few of my guys in.”

The article says that the high school junior showed incredible stage presence for someone who’s experience is limited at best.

McCreery sang ‘Gone,’ ‘Letters From Home,’ and ‘The River,’ all tracks that were essential to his success thus far in the competition.

A scene that will more than likely make it on Wednesday’s “American Idol” episode is the moment when McCreery buries his head in his hands and dabs at his teary eyes during the parade leading up to the concert at Lake Benson park.

Scotty McCreery is one of “American Idol’s” top three along with Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart. Watch the hometown visit episode this Wednesday at 8 p.m. on FOX.
