The Voice winner Jake Hoot joined forces with Kelly Clarkson for a soul-stirring duet, I Would’ve Loved You, and the performance hit deeper than anyone expected. The song, drenched in heartbreak and raw emotion, seemed to echo Kelly’s own story with her ex-husband, turning the stage into a mirror of her pain. As their voices intertwined, every lyric cut straight to the heart, leaving the audience in tears.

The song, which is described as a “powerful duet,” was co-written by Hoot, Dean Sams (Lonestar) and Jamie Floyd. From the moment they wrote it, Hoot knew Clarkson would be the perfect person to join him on the song.

“I Would’ve Loved You is a song about how the choices we make and the consequences that follow. It is a story about someone who has so much love to give, but due to the other person’s decisions, that love turns into a hate that lasts forever,” he explains. “I am so honored to have written this song with Jamie Floyd and Dean Sams, who are both incredible writers. I am beyond thankful to Kelly Clarkson for believing in me and recording this song with me! Can’t wait for y’all to hear it!”

Hoot previously shared his hopes for working with Clarkson after being crowned the winner of The Voice and couldn’t help but gush over having Clarkson as a mentor.

“She’s just a wealth of knowledge and she’s a huge supporter and a huge encourager,” he previously shared. “Hopefully the road doesn’t end here, and I’ll be able to get to work with her moving forward.”

According to a press release, Hoot and Clarkson recently shot a music video to accompany the duet and plan to release it in February.

“I Would’ve Loved You” is the lead single from Hoot’s debut EP, Love Out Of Time. The five-song project is set to release on January 27 and finds the rising country singer teaming up with an impressive lineup of musicians and songwriters, including Dean Sams (Lonestar), Myrick, Jenne Fleenor (CMA Award-winning musician), Dave Pahanish (Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Toby Keith), Jamie Floyd (Ingrid Andress, Lucie Silvas, Ashley Monroe) and more.
