On a drizzly day in Bali, Indonesia, animal rescuer Prue Barber was suddenly stopped in her tracks when she discovered a tiny, nearly hairless puppy shivering near a busy road.
“Sunny was just another pup in Bali, alone on the side of a road, traffic whizzing by, scared and starving,” Mission Paws’ible wrote on Instagram. “But she got lucky.”

Barber immediately knew she had to save the puppy, but she was worried that any sudden movement might scare the poor girl further into the street.
So, she decided to crouch down to the puppy’s level and attempt to lure her to safety using a gentle voice and tempting food.

The puppy was wary of Barber’s initial offer, but thankfully, she didn’t run into the road. Instead, she scurried off into an alleyway, and her dedicated rescuer followed suit.
Barber approached the puppy again, trying to avoid an adverse reaction from the scared girl. She showered the puppy with loving praise until she eventually gained her trust. Once Barber knew the puppy, whom she named Sunny, trusted her, she gently scooped her up and carried her to the car.

Sunny continued to shiver in her carrier, but Barber could feel the sweet girl’s anxiety dissipate as they drove to the nearest veterinary clinic.
After a long day at the clinic filled with exams and vaccinations, Sunny was deemed healthy enough for foster care, and she happily went off to her new temporary home through Mission Paws’ible.

Barber wasn’t sure what Sunny’s life was like before being rescued, but seeing her thrive in her foster home made the high-stakes rescue even more worthwhile. Once a small, naked dog with a thin blonde mohawk, Sunny soon transformed into a chunky pup with fluffy fur.
