The City of Miami Beach took back the key they gifted Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs nine years ago
City officials of Miami Beach have officially stripped the disgraced music mogul of his Key to the City. Diddy was first awarded those keys in 2015. TMZ first reported the news of the revocation and stated that Miami Beach MayorSteven Meiner and the city commission unanimously voted on the revocation on Wednesday, October 30 at hearing in person.
Sources told the outlet that the mayor has to still certify the resolution which is coming. TMZ reported that Joe Magazine, David Suarez, Tanya Katzoff Bhatt, and Alex Fernandez were sponsors of the resolution.
CBS Miami spoke to Miami Beach’s Vice Mayor Alex Fernandez about the decision on November 3. He called Diddy’s allegations “disgusting,” “dirty” and “inhumane.”

“Justice must be served and this is a small way in which our city can grant some justice to the victims of the gross acts that have been committed,” Fernandez explained.
The Bad Boy CEO was given the honor of the ceremonial key nine years ago by then-mayor Philip Levine in 2015 for his work in the music industry and his part in formulating the Revolt Music Conference in Miami Beach. Back in October, it was reported that Miami Beach city officials were in the last stages in their negotiations to take back the key. This comes as Diddy returned New York’s Key to the City this past June.
Mayor Eric Adams requested the key back after the unearthed 2016 hotel surveillance footage of Diddy brutally beating ex Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura. CNN had published the footage in May. The incident coincided with Cassie’s November 2023 lawsuit against Diddy where she alleged he sexually and physically abused her throughout the course of their 11 year relationship. The two settled the lawsuit one day after Cassie filed.
In the letter Mayor Adams wrote asking for the revocation of the key he gave to Diddy in September 2023, he said he was “disturbed” by the video and condemned Diddy’s actions. He also expressed his solidarity to survivors of domestic abuse.
The 54-year-old rapper is currently incarcerated in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center as he awaits his May 2025 trial date. He was arrested and indicted for sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pled not guilty to the charges and has denied all allegations.
