Jennifer Lopez could not bear to work with Ben Affleck and reveals how she ‘did the impossible’

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are divorcing — but it is a more complicated process than perhaps either member of this celebrity power couple initially imagined.

Affleck and Lopez have copious assets to divide, and their attempts to do amicably have been made more difficult without a signed prenuptial agreement. In addition, Lopez is tied to projects that Affleck is helming in one way or another — including the forthcoming sports biopic “Unstoppable“, which hits Amazon Prime Video in January.

Lopez sets aside her ego

In “Unstoppable”, Lopez stars as Judy Robles, the mother of wrestler Anthony Robles — who was born with one leg. The film is based on Anthony‘s book of the same name.

“Unstoppable” is produced by Artists Equity, the production company founded by Affleck and Matt Damon in 2022 — the year Affleck and Lopez tied the night in a Las Vegas wedding. In a recent interview, Lopez revealed the mindset she adopted while filming in the face of such obvious conflict with the “Argo” star Affleck.

“It was an honor to be a part of Anthony’s story and to play Judy,” Lopez said. “I approached the role with a complete lack of ego, where you have to go in there and have so much respect for the person you are playing because it’s her story. I disappeared, there was no Jennifer, no JLo – that person on the screen is just Judy.”

Lopez has already generated some award buzz for her turn as Judy Robles, and fans wanting to see the film in theaters will be able to do so from Dec. 6 prior to its streaming release on Jan. 16. Away from the silver screen, Lopez, Affleck, and their attorneys will continue to sort through the wreckage of their two-year marriage in an increasingly-fraught process — from which Lopez has found a way to dissociate.
