Dolly Parton tops Billboard’s list of Greatest Country Artists of All Time

Billboard’s list of the 100 Greatest Country Artists of All Time had no shortage of performers from the Volunteer State to choose from, but one beloved East Tennessean was left standing above the rest.

Dolly Parton topped the list that the music and entertainment outlet unveiled throughout the month of November. The Sevierville native placed ahead of fellow country icons like Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson amongst the top five.

Parton has captured numerous music records since the release of her 1967 debut album “Hello, I’m Dolly”. Her 25 No. 1s on Billboard’s Country Songs chart is a joint-record for a female artist, shared with Reba McEntire, and her 49 Top 10 entries on the US Top Country Albums chart is the most ever by a female artist.

She is one of the best-selling musicians of all time with more than 100 million records sold worldwide. She has received more Grammy Award nominations than any other female country artist.

The 78-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down. Her 2023 album “Rockstar” topped Billboard’s charts for Top Album Sales, Top Country Albums and Top Alternative Albums.

“When I was a little girl, I would sit around the radio and listen to the Grand Ole Opry and hearing all those great big stars like Hank Williams and Kitty Wells and Johnny Cash, I dreamed about what my life could actually become as well,” Parton said in a video message to Billboard.

“I just want to say a great big thank you to the folks at Billboard, but most of all to you, the fans. I take none of this for granted. So thank you for giving me the opportunity to take my music all around the world and to see all my dreams come true.”

Dolly Parton named 'Greatest Country Artist of All Time'
