Firework star, Katy Perry, made history yesterday when she was blasted into space with five female crewmates, but actress, Emily Ratajkowski, was appalled by the stunt

Gone Girl star, Emily Ratajkowski, has torn into Katy Perry after the Firework star’s jaw-dropping trip to space yesterday. Katy, 40, made history when she made a brief trip to suborbital space along with five other crewmates, including Amazon boss Jeff Bezos’ partner, Lauren Sanchez, 55, and 70-year-old journalist, Gayle King.

The Blue Origin space mission, pioneered by Bezos, was loudly lauded by much of Hollywood as being nothing short of ‘groundbreaking’ when the women returned to earth in Texas. However, Emily didn’t agree as she took to TikTok slamming the stunt, which she claimed was ‘disgusting’ because it was “paid for by a company that’s destroying our planet”.

Sitting in her car, reflecting on the day’s events, she said: “That space mission this morning? That’s end-time s***. Like, this is beyond parody.

“Saying that you care about Mother Earth and it’s about Mother Earth, and you’re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that’s singlehandedly destroying the planet?

“Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what? What was the marketing there?

“And then to try to make it like… I’m disgusted. Literally, I’m disgusted.”

Actress, Olivia Munn, was also non-plussed over the event and was one of the first A-listers to ridicule the “gluttonous” mission earlier this month.

“What are they doing?” she asked on Today With Jenna & Friends on April 3, adding: “I know this probably isn’t the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.

“I know this is probably obnoxious but like, it’s so much money to go to space, and there’s a lot of people who can’t even afford eggs.”

“What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous,” Munn continued, concluding: “Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?”

Elsewhere, comedian Amy Schumer made a dig at the mission, joking she had received a last minute invite on the spacecraft.

Taking to Instagram, she said: “Guys, last second they added me to space, and I’m going to space,” she said, holding a Black Panther toy. “I’m bringing this thing. It has no meaning to me, but it was in my bag, and I was on the Subway, and I got the text, and they were like, ‘Do you want to go to space?’ so I’m going to space.”

Also criticising the stunt was actress, Olivia Wilde, who like Olivia Munn, questioned the cost of the Blue Origin endeavour.

“Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess,” the Don’t Worry Darling actress and director wrote on her Instagram Story alongside a photo of Katy returning to Earth in Texas and kissing the ground.

The Teenage Dream singer set off on the 11-minute flight with Lauren, Gayle, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, 33, rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, 38, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, 57.

The group screamed with joy throughout their journey after they launched into space at 2.30pm UK time from Blue Origin’s launch site in Van Horn, Texas – and on landing minutes later.

Speaking after landing, Katy said she felt “connected to love” and described herself as the “crier of the group”. Insisting “this is all for the benefit of Earth”, she gushed: “It’s about a collective energy in there, it’s about us, it’s about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging and it’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there, and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth.”

Backing up her crewmate and giving her response to critics of the space flight, Gayle said during a press conference: “Anybody that’s criticising it doesn’t really understand what is happening here.” She also emphasised the mission’s inspirational impact on young women.

Lauren also responded to naysayers by pointing out the ‘dedication’ of the company’s employees. She said: “I would love to have them (our critics) come to Blue Origin and see the thousands of employees that don’t just work here but they put their heart and soul into this vehicle.”

She added: “They love their work and they love the mission and it’s a big deal for them.”

The NS-31 mission was Blue Origin’s 11th human flight and aimed to inspire future generations by showcasing diversity and inclusion in space exploration.
