Selena Gomez hit out at presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance at the 2024 Emmy Awards as she called her fellow co-stars “childless cat ladies.”
Following in suit with her bestie Taylor Swift – who recently endorsed Kamala Harris in the presidential election – Selena also publicly dissed JD Vance during her on-stage speech. As she spoke at the coveted award show, Selena referenced his disparaging comment as she jokingly called her Only Murders in the Building co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin a couple of “childless cat ladies.”
This comes as the Republican vice-presidential nominee has been facing a slew of criticism after he made the comment aimed at the Democratic party. In a resurfaced 2021 interview with former Fox News pundit Tucker Carlson, JD Vance complained about the country being run by Democrats, corporate oligarchs, and “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”

The comment came after the trio took the stage to present the first award of the night with the group of co-stars roasting one another in front of the star-studded audience. Matin started off as she said to Steve: “Let me just say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like he’s fallen and can’t get up.”

To which Martin whipped back: “And let me say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like a former women’s tennis champion.” But then Selena up-staged them both as she chimed in: “And let me say what an honor it is work with two guys who are this far away from being childless cat ladies.”
After the group took the stage fans raved over their hilarious dynamic and rallied for the trio to reunite to host future award shows. One fan wrote: “Steve, Martin and Selena host alllll award shows!!!!!” And another added: “Ok so when are Selena, Steve and Martin hosting the Oscars??” And a third chimed in: “I love how much Steve Martin and Martin Short clearly adore Selena Gomez.”
The Only Murders in the Building stars are one of the frontrunners in nominees for the night after being recognized with 21 nods for their hit show. In addition to this, actors Martin and Steve are both nominated for Lead Actor and Selena was honored with her first-ever nomination for Lead Actress.
