Hugh Jackman shares his joy at heartwarming reunion following split from wife Deborra-Lee Furness

Hugh Jackman has shared his excitement about reuniting with close friend Ryan Reynolds for the upcoming movie Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Oscar nominee, 55, previously announced his retirement from the iconic role of Wolverine, leaving many saddened by his departure from the character he portrayed for nearly two decades.

However, Jackman couldn’t resist donning the claws once more when Reynolds, 47, pitched him the idea of returning in the latest instalment.

In an interview with Fandango, the actor recalled the moment he realised he was ready to reprise the role.

I was on my way, I was just driving, and literally, just like a bolt of lightning, came this knowing deep in my gut that I wanted to do this film with Ryan, for Deadpool and Wolverine to come back together,’ Jackman explained.

‘And I literally couldn’t wait to arrive. As soon as I arrived, I rang Ryan. And I just said, “Let’s do it”. Like, I hadn’t rung my agent, no one,’ he admitted.

‘I had to ring my agent and said, “Oh, by the way, I have just committed to a movie,”‘ he said with a laugh.

‘But in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like, “Those two characters together.” I knew it,’ he said.

The reunion comes after Hugh announced his split from long-time wife Deborra-Lee Furness in September – after 27 years of marriage.

The former couple revealed to fans that they had separated ‘to pursue our individual growth’.

‘We have been blessed to share almost three decades together in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,’ the couple said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

‘Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition.’

The former couple signed the statement as ‘Deb and Hugh Jackman,’ adding: ‘This is the sole statement either of us will make.’

The pair had tied the knot in 1996 after crossing paths on set of Correlli in 1995.

During the course of their marriage, they adopted two children: son Oscar, 23, and daughter Ava, 18.
