Logan star Dafne Keen reveals moving gesture from co-star Hugh Jackman

Child star Dafne Keen says Huge Jackman inspired her to make sure she didn’t become a ‘nightmare’ actor.

She says her generous co-star’s wonderful gifts and attitude on set made her want to be just like him. Two years after her screen debut The Refugees, and after several auditions, Madrid-born Dafne was cast in the 2017 superhero film Logan, which she featured alongside the Aussie movie star.

Now she has spoke about what she learned from him – and how he set the tone for her not just in the working world, but in life as well. The film, which opened to critical and financial success, handed the 10-year-old her big break and eight years after it hit screens she says it totally shaped her.

“If I’d have done my first job with an a**hole I would probably have thought that was normal,” the actress, now 19, said. “And my normal was someone who bought lottery tickets for every single person on set and learned their names and their wives’ names and their kids’ names.

“My first job was with such amazing people that I thought that was the norm and the more I work the more I realise how rare that is. Actors are usually a nightmare. But my biggest drive, every time, is for the crew to like me,” she said in an interview with Defined Magazine.

She also spoke on the pressures of feeling like she has ‘peaked’ in her career at a young age. “When you do something that’s so huge and so well regarded at such a young age you think you’ve peaked,” Dafne admits. “I always feel like I’ll never top that performance, which I think is good because it means that I keep working hard at it. I don’t get comfortable because I don’t want to be the person who peaked at 11.”

The actress’ step into mainstream Hollywood came at the age of 15 with her role as Laura, also known as X-23, in Marvel Comics’ Logan. Dafne, whose parents are both actors, also starred as Lyra Belacqua in the BBC’s His Dark Materials, which is set in a parallel world where the iconic orphan tries to stop chaos from spilling into the universe.
