Ryan Reynolds is putting his writer’s cap on as he is set to reunite with his ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ teammates, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the duo which delivered one of the biggest hits of the year, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, is reuniting. In some exciting update, Ryan has confirmed that he will be collaborating with the Australian actor and his close friend for a new film.
In an interview with Variety, Reynolds revealed that he will be writing the script of the movie but did not disclose plot details. Icing on the cake, Shawn Levy will helm the new project. “I’m spending the year writing. I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh and Shawn to do,” he said before adding that it will not be part of the Marvel Cinematic universe.
Director Shawan Levy has worked with both Ryan and Hugh on different projects. Their latest collaboration ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ shattered many box office records and the film is 12th highest-grossing film in history.
While Hugh and Shawn seems to be onboard, it’s not clear yet whether any studio has backed the project or not.
Earlier in the year, it had been reported that Reynolds and wife Blake Lively took over Justin Baldoni’s edit of “It Ends With us,” despite Baldoni’s cut having scored higher with audiences.
Controversy arose over Lively actually admitting that Reynolds wrote a few key scenes that ended up in the film. Sources say that came as news to Baldoni, who thought the scenes had been ad-libbed by Lively.
This might have also been a guild violation as Reynolds’ “work” on the film was potentially done during the WGA strikes. As a member of the guild, Reynolds would have been barred from contributing to the screenplay.
Regardless, we now have Reynolds telling Variety that he’s writing a new mystery project that would reunite him with his “Deadpool & Wolverine” cohorts, Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy.
The project has nothing to do with the MCU, and seems to be an original story conceived from scratch by Reynolds.
“I’m spending the year writing,” Reynolds said. “I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh [Jackman] and Shawn [Levy] to do that is not Marvel.”
Prior to their work on ‘Deadpool 3,’ Reynolds and Levy worked on films such as “The Adam Project” and “Free Guy.” Levy also previously worked with Jackman on “Real Steel” years ago.
