The Terrifier franchise of horror films has come on leaps and bounds over recent years and the latest film is grossing out cinemagoers across the world.

This has prompted, somewhat unusually, a Terrifier video game that will be with us next year.

If you want to be scared this spooky season then look no further than the remake of Silent Hill 2

Terrifier: The ARTcade Game is a retro-inspired beat-em-up that puts you in control of Art the Clown while he terrorises a local community through depraved and violent acts.

I’m quite shocked by this game’s existance. The Terrifier films are disgustingly violent and I do love them, however, I’m not entirely sure how this will convert to games.

It’s not like we’re going full 3D in the way Rockstar Games did for Manhunt and beat-em-ups don’t really scream horror to me either.

Alien Isolation 2 officially announced on 10th anniversary of original game

That’s not to say it can’t be a huge success, especially as so many people will likely want to check it out.

According to the press release, the game will feature Art the Clown and other characters played by up to four players.

With retro graphics harking back to the days of Mega Drive and SNES and a bunch of game modes, this could very well be a winner or at least a cult classic.

It does sound like a lot of fun, with you playing as Art, who “disrupts movie sets where films about his own gruesome acts are being shot. Instead of letting the cameras capture the staged terror, Art brings his own brand of real chaos, tearing through hordes of policemen, firewomen, camera operators, stunt performers, makeup artists, and even unsuspecting civilians”.

I just hope the game can capture the level of violence authentically, or at least provide buckets of blood and broken bones.
