Despite their long-standing friendship, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift haven’t been spending time together as they once did, and insiders claim that Gomez feels distanced from Swift’s close-knit group of friends.
According to the Daily Mail, sources suggest that Gomez’s disinterest in being part of Swift’s celebrity squad, which includes Blake Lively, Lana Del Rey, Ice Spice, and Brittany Mahomes, has contributed to their growing apart.
“Selena feels like she has matured out of Taylor’s circle of friends,” a source told DailyMail.com. “She doesn’t want to be around Blake or Ice Spice, or really any of those girls anymore.”
Earlier this year, Gomez hinted at her feelings of exclusion when she commented on an Instagram photo of Swift with her friends at the Super Bowl, posting a sad emoji alongside a black heart.
Gomez’s absence was also noticeable at Swift’s Rhode Island party in August, which further raised questions about their friendship.
According to insiders, Gomez feels like an outsider now. “She’s not one to join the group outings anymore,” another source added.
Reports also claim there has been tension between Gomez and Lively, with the two opting to spend time with Swift separately over the years.
Relationships getting in the way
Another factor behind the duo’s lack of public appearances together could be their focus on their respective relationships.
Gomez has been dating musician Benny Blanco since summer 2023, while Swift’s romance with NFL star Travis Kelce has been making waves. Sources say the two couples don’t have much in common, making double dates unlikely.
However, despite the physical distance, insiders insist there’s no falling out between Gomez and Swift. “They’re both focused on their careers and relationships,” a source said. “It’s just life getting in the way.”
Though they may not hang out often, fans are hopeful the pair will reconnect soon, with speculation about a potential cameo by Swift in Gomez’s hit show Only Murders in the Building.
However, Gomez playfully remarked that Swift might be too busy to take on a role.
