P Diddy’s arrest saw a strong wave of family support as his mother spoke out to protect her son. This is just one piece of their long, close relationship over the years

Support for Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs includes his close-knit family.

Diddy’s mother raised him alone after his dad died when he was two years old. The pair seemingly grew very close, including in his adult life, given her hard work and dedication in raising the rapper. In a 2006 interview with Oprah Winfrey, he said: “My mother likes to spend time with me. She loves me so much, and she’s so proud of me. She almost killed herself to make sure I went to private schools, to expose me to travel. She made sure I never looked down on other people. She also ignited a fire in me.”

Since then, Janice Combs has stayed by her son’s side, even when he slipped into legal trouble. In fact, she supported him after Diddy was arrested in connection to a shooting at a New York City night club, standing strong until his 2001 acquittal. That same energy translated over to his most recent arrest.
Diddy was arrested on sex trafficking charges in New York, being jailed in the Metropolitan Detention Center without bail as he awaits his trial. Once again, Diddy’s mother advocated for him. According to the New York Post, Janice said: “I come to you today as a mother that is devastated and profoundly saddened by the allegations made against my son, Sean Combs. It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies.”

She emphasized her belief that he was “not a monster.” Amid the ongoing allegations, Janice was hospitalized in July, with a source telling Today that “they think stress was a factor.” They added: “The stress of everything has been a lot for her. I think she largely, like, you know, she’s standing by her son.”

There have been no legal charges or civil complaints filed against Janice in connection to the sex trafficking investigation. However, in a video, she is seen getting an IV fluid drip, a method Diddy allegedly used in his “freak off” parties to revive participants after a night of sex and drugs. In the video, Diddy calls her “Mom Dukes” and even gives her a kiss.

Diddy also brought up his mother’s relationship status, telling the world she is single. “Me and my mom talked about one time doing a dating show with her,” he said. “She’s so picky. She’s so picky they don’t stand [a chance],” the rapper elaborated. He also noted that they’ve been to strip clubs together before.

Their close relationship led to Diddy supporting her once he amassed his huge wealth. In 2020, he dropped on a new Bentley and gave her a $1million check. He wrote on Instagram at the time: “I only exist because of this beautiful, hardworking, loving, hilarious, ass-whooping, always telling me the truth, genuine, smart, fly absolutely amazing Black Goddess Queen!!”
