The star of the original ‘Mean Girls’ makes a surprise appearance in the movie musical reboot
The Mean Girls movie musical is now streaming — and according to one of its stars, Lindsay Lohan was “pregnant as hell” while filming her cameo.
Lohan, who led the original 2004 movie as Cady Heron, makes an appearance in the new reboot of the Tina Fey-written hit. The 37-year-old actress plays a moderator of the pivotal Mathletes tournament opposite Angourie Rice as Cady.
The Parent Trap star welcomed her first child, son Luai, with husband Bader Shammas in July 2023. But she filmed her scene before giving birth, as Reneé Rapp recalled on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last month while raving about how “excited” she was for Lohan’s cameo.
Rapp added, “So I was so excited that she was there because she’s Lindsay Lohan and she’s so cool and hot but also like, she was pregnant.”

Directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., 2024’s Mean Girls retells the story of Cady navigating North Shore High School’s cliques and infiltrating its most popular group of girls, known as the Plastics.
The movie is adapted from the award-winning musical from Fey, Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin that premiered on Broadway in 2018. Inheriting the role of queen bee Regina George from Rachel McAdams is Rapp, who made her Great White Way debut in the role beginning in 2019.
Making special appearances in the new movie alongside Lohan are Fey, 53, and Tim Meadows, reprising their roles from the 2004 film, as well as Megan Thee Stallion as herself.
In addition, Ashley Park — who was Tony-nominated for originating the role of Gretchen Wieners on Broadway — appears as a new character, French teacher Madame Park.
On the red carpet of the film’s New York City premiere on Jan. 8, Lohan was asked if she identifies as a “cool mom” after welcoming her son. “I hope so,” she told PEOPLE exclusively with a laugh.

Rice, 23, told PEOPLE exclusively last month that sharing screen time with Lohan during their big scene “meant so much to me.”
“It is such a rare experience to really get in the head of a character and then meet someone who’s done the same thing,” she said. “Just to have that shared experience, it means a lot.”
Shouting out other stars who have played her character, including Erika Henningsen on Broadway, Rice added, “To know that Cady has been a part of so many actors’ lives and so many actors have delved into that character — she’s bigger than the actor in a way.”
Last fall, Lohan also revisited the Mean Girls universe as Cady nearly 20 years later in a buzzy Walmart commercial — alongside the original film’s cast members Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, Rajiv Surendra and Daniel Franzese.

Asked at the New York City premiere about a possible Mean Girls 2, Franzese, 45, told PEOPLE that the original cast “are all down” to do more.
“You got to tell the boss lady over there,” he said, referring to Fey. “I’m sure [she’s] heard it a million times, but she’s the gatekeeper, so we’re all waiting.”
The new Mean Girls also stars Auli’i Cravalho as Janice (played in the original movie by Lizzy Caplan), Jaquel Spivey as Damian (originally Franzese), Avantika as Karen (originally Seyfried, 38), Bebe Wood as Gretchen (originally Chabert, 41), Christopher Briney as Aaron (originally Jonathan Bennett) and Busy Philipps as Mrs. George (originally Amy Poehler).
Mean Girls the musical film is now available to rent or buy on Prime Video, Google Play and more.
