Lindsay Lohan Resurrects Parent Trap Twins Annie and Hallie in Iconic Hair Campaign — British Accent and All!

The star’s “exciting” new Nexxus campaign honors some of her most beloved roles 26 years later

Annie James and Hallie Parker are back — and they’re budding beauty influencers!

Lindsay Lohan channels the beloved twins from 1998’s The Parent Trap, her breakout film at 12 years old, for Nexxus’ new “The Style Swap” campaign (watch above) highlighting the haircare brand’s top styling products. We even get a Meredith Blake moment!

“I wasn’t planning on doing a British accent for Annie,” Lohan tells PEOPLE of filming the nostalgic spot. “We weren’t going to go that far, and then I threw that in at the last minute. I decided to do it just because I thought it would make it even more fun for everyone to see — and it was fun for me to do because I haven’t done it in so long.”

The new video is jam-packed with easter eggs and sees Lohan sitting at her vanity as she ponders different “twinspired” style options that are reflective of each character. For Hallie’s moment, she rocks voluminous beachy waves (reminiscent of the twin’s relaxed, carefree demeanor) with the help of Nexxus XXL Volume Medium Hold Hairspray.

To channel the prim and polished Annie, Lohan sports a slicked-back ponytail using the Nexxus Slick Stick, not a flyaway in sight! For a surprise twist at the closer, Lindsay rocks romantic, shiny, soft waves (styled with Nexxus Repair & Nourish Ultra Lightweight Hair Oil) complete with an oversized black hat and red lip as a nod to everyone’s favorite villainous stepmother.

“I’m big with using the Nexxus Hair Oil. I love it because I like my hair to feel soft and silky and hydrated,” Lohan says. “I try not to wash my hair every day — I feel like my hair tends to get dry when I do that. I think also when you’re doing so much to your hair and you’re going to events, you need to then replenish your hair on your downtime. I also love the XXL Volume Hairspray, because I like when my hair is set, but doesn’t feel hardset so that I can still touch it and it feels nice.”

Lohan adds that she finds the whole Nexxus partnership “really exciting.”

“It’s a really refreshing, fun, pretty and girly campaign,” she says. “I really love that about it.”

The natural redhead has been experimenting with her hair color lately, recently seen rocking a lighter blonde-ish shade at Paris Fashion Week.

“I wanted it to be lighter for the last role I was doing because I felt it was more fresh for the character and gave something different,” she says. “And then the problem with when you go light is you just want to keep kind of going lighter and I got that bug, but it will go away soon.”

Lohan dazzled at the Balenciaga show on Sep. 30, in a show-stopping black sequin gown, marking a return to the fashion scene, where she feels very much at home.

“It was a moment. That dress fit like a glove. It zipped on and it was on,” she says. “Balenciaga always tells a story with their clothes and the clothes don’t wear you, you wear the clothes.”

For Lohan, going to Paris is a homecoming of sorts.

“I’ve been lucky enough to always have fun with fashion, specifically in my days and when I used to come to Paris,” she says. “I was working here a lot because fashion’s always been a big part of my life. I’m a fashionista. I love fashion. I love what goes into it. I love learning about the designers and why they make the collections they make. But in beauty, I think it’s really nice because when I was younger, I never really stepped into the world of doing a hair product or partnering with someone like Nexxus. It’s nice that this is happening now in my life. I feel really lucky.”

Lohan says it also feels good to be acting again. She has been back in the spotlight following the birth of her son Luai, who turned one in July. She starred in the Netflix rom-com Irish Wish earlier this year. The Freaky Friday sequel, set to be released in 2025, will mark her first big-screen lead role in over a decade.

“It feels like it’s a nice momentum that’s happening,” she says. “I think balance is everything, so long as you can always maintain a good balance and the right things come, then it all works out the way it’s supposed to.”

The Nexxus campaign has also allowed her to reflect on her early career, which she’s just as nostalgic for as her fans.

“Many of my films are beautiful family stories that we all love to go back to,” she says. “I’ve been lucky enough to play a lot of those characters that grow with us and that our kids can see. I feel so happy to be a part of that. It’s such a blessing.”
