ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has finally provided a little bit of clarity amid speculation that he could run for President of the United States in 2028.
The 57-year-old Smith has given conflicting responses about potentially running for President in 2028. Since the United States Constitution limits each POTUS to two terms, Donald Trump will not be eligible for re-election in 2028.
It’s obviously way too early to read too much into 2028 polling, but Stephen A. Smith has performed well in recent polls for the 2028 Democratic nominee. Just look at the recent poll from “Pablo Torre Find Out” below:
Speaking at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, Smith said that he’s weighing all options, including the idea of running for President in 2028. Smith claimed that elected officials have approached him about the idea, and he won’t rule it out, via Barrett Media:
“Over the last few weeks, I’ve had no choice but to get more serious about it. I’ve been approached by people on Capitol Hill. I’ve been approached by people who are elected officials in office, whether it’s governors or mayors or what have you. People have legitimately, seriously, asked me about it.
I have no desire to be a politician, but I’ve decided that I’m no longer going to close that door. I’m gonna keep my options open. I’m going to entertain the possibility. If it comes in late 2026, 2027, where I look at this country and think it’s an absolute mess and there’s legitimate reason to believe…that I indeed have a legitimate shot to win the presidency of the United States. I am not going to rule it out.”
Well, Donald Trump and the late Ronald Reagan proved that any celebrity can become the most powerful person in the world if they run the right campaign. Reagan was a giant movie star in the 1940s and ’50s before beginning his political career.
Many scoffed when Trump announced his plans to run for President in 2015. Yet here we are a decade later, and the former star of “The Apprentice” is in the early stages of his second presidential term.

The reality is that anyone who wants to run for President must be very wealthy to start a campaign, to say nothing of all the funding they’ll need from would-be voters.
Well, Smith just signed a five-year, $100 million extension with the Worldwide Leader in sports. The new deal includes a reduced working schedule at ESPN and the freedom to talk more about politics outside of his employer.
