It’s always a perk to have friends in high places—just look at Selena Gomez and her seemingly subtle shout-out to BFF Taylor Swift. In the latest episode of Only Murders in the Building, eagle-eyed fans caught a clever nod to the pop star, and it’s not likely to have been an accident.
The moment in question happens during season 4, episode 7, titled “Valley of the Dolls.” In the episode, Gomez’s character, Mabel, escapes NYC with Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) and heads to Charles’s sister Doreen’s (played by Melissa McCarthy) doll-filled home in Staten Island. But the house wasn’t filled with just any ordinary doll decor. In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, fans spotted a doll that looks a lot like Swift: blonde hair, red lips and a black No. 87 jersey—a not-so-subtle nod to Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who wears that number as a Kansas City Chiefs player. Coincidence? Fans think not.

“Oh, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought of that. Also, there’s no way this is just a coincidence,” one fan wrote on X. Another fan chimed in, “I saw that so quick! I was like, omg.” And a third added, “It really does look like Taylor. I had to watch it twice because I was looking for a red shirt with the 87. Chiefs red and 87 are ingrained in my head.”
Clearly, Swift’s presence—even in doll form—is impossible to miss.
While this little Easter egg hasn’t been officially confirmed, the idea of the “So High School” singer making a cameo in Only Murders isn’t all that out there.
When asked by E! News back in August if a Swift appearance was on the table, Gomez playfully reminded people that her BFF already has a pretty full calendar.
“You’re hilarious,” she said. “She’s a little busy, you guys.” But when the reporter floated the idea of a low-key cameo, like Swift just strolling through the background, Gomez seemed all for it, saying, “I love that.”
So, will Taylor Swift pop up in Only Murders? Fans will have to wait and see, but with only a few episodes left in season 4, the clock is ticking. If not, don’t worry—the show’s already been renewed for season 5, so there’s still a chance.
Meanwhile, Swift and Kelce are off doing their own thing: She’s crushing the Eras Tour, and he’s busy playing in the NFL. You know, casual power couple stuff.
