The film tells the story of drug lord Manitas del Monte (Karla Sofía Gascón) on the run. Selena Gomez plays Jessi Del Monte, the criminal’s wife and mother of two children.

Jacques Audiard, the French director who directed the film, was praised for his handling of the theme and transitions. One account wrote: “The elements of comedy, crime and music come together in the most unexpected ways.”

On the contrary, some viewers criticized the film and Gomez’s performance. One commented: “After watching Emilia Pérez , it’s clear that Selena is the worst actor.” Another agreed, adding: “There are no words to describe how bad Sel and the film are.”

Some people said they decided to watch the movie because they believed in the positive reviews from the media and critics. But in return, it was a disappointing experience, especially in terms of the former Disney star’s lackluster acting.

In an interview with AP, Gomez recalled her first experience acting in another language: “I was honored to be in the movie but I wasn’t very satisfied with my performance in Spanish. However, overall, I hope it doesn’t hinder my performance. This is a big challenge for me.”
